Both are very good choices since they're both highly upgradable with aftermarket parts (other than that MK96 parts seem to be cheaper than VSR/BAR parts). As for which is better the only major differences that could possibly affect performance is that MK96 uses a much better hop up mechanism since it's applying straight down pressure unlike the BAR which uses a lever on the side giving uneven pressure causing a curve in your BB (this can be solved). And the different sear degrees, the BAR uses a 45 degree and the MK96 uses a 90 degree. Be aware the MK96 is large, heavy and bulky while the BAR is very very light and much easier to move about with.
