yes

if you're worried about sharpness, get a spyderco sharpening kit.

I have never been a fan of the wave opening system, but I can assure you that the Endura is a fine knife. The metal holds an edge very well. A wonderful EDC knife.

Is there a reason why you're going for the wave version? The regular version of the Endura is still as awesome. I personally think it's a bit safer since some people don't know how to handle the wave versions very well and tend to cut themselves.

Enduras are fairly big though, so what is the purpose of this knife for you? If you want daily use, I'd go for a delica.

That is an excellent video. The new Enduras look great. I may have to get another soon. I tear my pockets up with my gear as it is. I am carrying either an Atlantic Salt, Rescue, or Endura. I have trained to open it one handed upon pulling it from my pocket discretely, or if I am around an office environment then I pull it out slowly and non-offensively.

Dont know if you are still looking into this knife or not for your fathers birthday, but yes both the full flat ground and the half groung (sabre grind) have same edge angles. The factor behind the two are that a full flat ground blade is a better slicer due to less material being in the slicing area, where with the non flat ground blade you have more material to pass when slicing. I owned a Spydie Endura (white) Frn and out of the both it was paper slicing sharp, had to touch it up for hair popping abilities.
